  jsatrade.com presents the Investment Planner , a unique software package which can help you in planning your investments. You can use the software to calculate how much money you need to invest in order to get your planned amount in the future. There are three calculators- two investment planners and one retirement planner. Once you have installed the software on your computer, you can read the help topics for further information.

To use the Investment Planner , you need to have the Java development Kit or the Java Runtime on your machine since the package has been developed in Java. This has been done so that the package can be used on any computer system on this planet (Windows, Macintosh, Unix, Sun-Solaris etc.).

To install the software, just follow the following easy steps:

  1. You need to download the file- InvPlanner.jar. This is a java archive file and NOT an  .exe file so you cannot start it by double clicking on it. Click on the link above to download the file. Copy the file in the 'bin' directory of your Java Development Kit (JDK1.1 or higher).
  2. Now you need to extract the six class files contained in the Jar file . To do so, go to the DOS prompt and change the current directory to JDK1.2\Bin (assuming that you have JDK1.2 on your computer). The command line will be as follows:       C:\jdk1.2\bin>
  3. Type the following on the command line to extract the files:                                 C:\jdk1.2\bin>jar xf InvPlanner.jar              where 'I' and 'P' are uppercase in the name of the file. Please note that there is a space each between the keywords jar and xf and between xf and InvPlanner.jar
  4. Once you have done this, you can start using the software. Just type the following command on the command line:                                               C:\jdk1.2\bin>java Investments                    where 'I' is uppercase. 'Investments' is the main program that starts on the given command. You will get a screen with a menu on top of the frame. Click on the 'Planners' menu to begin using the software.
  5. After that, whenever you want to start the program, just go to the DOS prompt, change the current directory to 'Bin' of Java Development Kit and type: C:\jdk1.2\bin>java Investments                    where 'I' is uppercase.
